Education: Cornell University
Internship: Garden State Veterinary Specialists
Residency: Ocean State Veterinary Specialists

Dr. Sam Dicker grew up on Long Island, and he is thrilled to be on staff at both West Hills Animal Hospital and Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care as a board certified specialist in Emergency and Critical Care. He oversees the Emergency and Critical Care service, hospitalized patients requiring intensive monitoring, and critically ill patients under anesthesia.

His animal career began volunteering at North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, NY in the adoption center at the age of 15. He then began volunteering and working as a veterinary assistant at Great Neck Animal Hospital. Dr. Dicker earned his bachelor's degree with Honors in Molecular Biology and graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Skidmore College in 2012. He graduated from Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. Dr. Dicker then completed a rotating small animal internship in medicine and surgery at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in New Jersey. He then went on to complete a 3-year residency in Emergency and Critical Care at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists, a busy emergency and referral hospital in Rhode Island. Dr. Dicker's research during his residency focused on use of bedside lung ultrasound for detecting life-threatening signs of trauma in dogs. He has a special interest in point-of-care ultrasound, which allows emergency veterinarians to gain vital information quickly, painlessly and inexpensively. His other interests include respiratory distress, cardiac emergencies, endocrine emergencies, sepsis and teaching.

During his spare time, Dr. Dicker enjoys taking his dog Mowgli on outdoor adventures, playing golf, cooking (especially grilling), stand-up comedy (and occasionally performs) and is an avid guitar player.
